The Latest Statistics on Vocations to the Religious Life
More than half of this year’s ordinandi are between the ages of 25-34. Survey results of the past five years show priesthood candidates trending younger.
Family plays a significant role: four in five have parents who are both Catholic; one-third have a relative who is a priest or religious; more than half report more than two siblings — nearly a quarter have more than five.
71% were altar servers.
66% were encouraged by their parish priest.
Catholic education has had an impact on the ordinandi. In comparison to the average adult Catholic population, they are more likely to have attended Catholic elementary or high school. Of those who attended college before entering seminary, 67% attended a Catholic college.
